Did you know that we were not meant to live in fear and anxiety, not meant to accept them as an everyday part of life? You might say this is impossible with the present state of our world, but consider these facts/statements before falling into the destructiveness of Anxiety:
I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them have never happened…(Mark Twain)
90% of the things we worry about never happen…(Chuck Swindoll)
Worry is thinking that has grown toxic…(Harold B. Walker)
Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained…(Arthur Somers Roche)
Be anxious for nothing…(God)

Why most people don't change.
There is a saying by an anonymous author, which says, "Until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing, people will stay the same." Which means that until you are so miserable in your present condition, so tired of the way you are, you probably won't change. Why is this so? There are many reasons and most likely at the top of the list would be denial, selfishness, laziness and self-pity. Yet, it does not have to be this way. Here are some tips:
1). Realize that you have been caught in a trap of knowing the truth about change, but for a number of reasons are hoping that this negative habit will not get worse (99% of the time it will).
2). Realize that you can change but it will take a commitment that will pay off in the end.
3). Realize that change rarely happens without the help of friends, family and especially God in your life. Reach out!
4). Realize that change can occur within a short period of time. Most experts say that a new habit can form within 3 months.
Lastly, it will be painful to change, but a lot more painful to stay the same.

How to keep from becoming a statistic.

These ideas are not new, I read them somewhere and I believe they are important enough to go over and over until they become a common practice. Please remember to always lock all the doors in your vehicle, and don't leave your vehicle running. Windows of course are an easy entry point for any would be thief or hijacker so roll windows up tight, make sure they are snug. Even a crack in the window can allow easy access to the inside. Remember thieves base their crime on the amount of time to "get in" and "out". They will actually plan their "spree" on how much time it will take to make an escape, so anything in place that will cause them a delay will frustrate their plans. Another simple remedy is to install tamper proof door lock buttons. These buttons are very frustrating when time is a factor. Engraving a number on valuables will help police identify your property, and remember not to leave any valuables in plain sight, put them under a jacket, behind the seat or in the trunk. Spare keys should be hidden in a place that is hard to find, this may take some imagination. Remember time is "the factor", so don't help would be criminals by giving them an edge! http://www.personalsafetyone.com

Something for your glove compartment that may save your life.

Some people say that I go a little overboard on being prepared for different challenges that we may face in life. One challenge that few people think about is the possibility of falling asleep while driving. I can honestly tell you that this has never been a problem with me. I always seemed to control it either by opening a window or a quick coffee stop. Yet, while I was driving home one day from a conference I started getting real sleepy. I dismissed it as usual especially because the sun was so bright, I knew it would keep me awake. Well it didn't work and within minutes I found myself across the road heading for oncoming traffic. I could not believe how quickly it happened. I can tell you I was awake after that and made it home safely. But, what if I had stayed asleep a couple of more seconds, what would have been the result?
This particular kind of incident is so prevalent that it was part of a three day class I recently attended for obtaining a commercial drivers license. The instructor pointed out that the peak time for drowsiness for most individuals is the 3 pm hour of the day. That's about the time I experienced my nightmare and is also the time when school bus drivers are taking our children home!
It is a real problem but there is a helpful solution. It's called the "Nap Zapper", you can find one at this website (http://www.personalsafetyone.com/) and other sites as well. It fits neatly over your ear (actually lays behind the ear). It emits a pleasant awakening (not startling) signal that warns you of your current situation. It’s an absolute necessity when you have to make those long, monotonous driving trips. When your not using it simply place it into your glove compartment and it's there when you need it! It could very well save you or your loved one's lives.

Fool them before they get you!
I just read an article in our local newspaper about the rise in automobile break-ins. They are becoming more and more an everyday occurrence. Autos are being ransacked not because the windows or doors were left open, but rather when something that attracts the eye is spotted in the car. These thieves will break windshields, side windows, and even bust doors to get what they want. Of course the easiest and smartest thing to do is make sure you don't leave attractive items such as an Ipod, camera, purse, GPS or almost any electronic device. But, what about the quick trip into the grocery store or school, etc. It's so annoying to think I've got to live like that. It brings paranoia into my life.
One remedy is to get an alarm system if you can afford one, but most people cannot. The second best choice is a "fake system" that includes stickers for your windows that warn potential thieves of the alarm. These systems have a battery operated light that blinks as if to show it is armed. The battery lasts about 10 months and they are inexpensive too!

Confidence in an alarming world!

While attending college a number of years ago my wife was a victim of an attack. She was a registered owner of a firearm but unfortunately it was in another room and could not be reached. Having something as simple as a window alarm (which required no professional installation), or a key chain pepper spray container could have prevented the whole traumatic event. Ordeals like this one have helped me become passionate about helping people "be prepared" by having in place safety items that are inexpensive and provide a high level of personal protection. It is easy to think, "that would never happen to me", my wife thought the same thing. PLEASE realize it happens everyday to the unprepared, especially woman. Take time, make an effort to at least see what is available. Like a boxer who prepares for a fight building his confidence for the arena. You as well should prepare for your probable battles in life. Doing so will give you a new level of confidence in this alarming world!
